Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre offers many types of activity and entertainment. You’ll see break-out bands here as well as long established names like Burning Spear, Willie Nelson or Van Morrison. There’ll be campus events like graduations or public lectures, stand-up comedy shows from performers like Jim Gaffigan, plays, dance performances or children’s theater from Kidz Bop.

What to expect at a concert

When you go to Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre concerts, you’ll be in a purpose-built Greek-style amphitheatre on a university campus. Students and community members come here to enjoy the open-air concert experience, and San Diego visitors often stop by. It’s a favorite with SoCal residents, too, as it’s easy to get to from LA, Orange County, La Jolla and the Pacific surfing coast.

The theatre offers state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, so that everyone in the audience can see and hear to best advantage. These technical facilities also ensure that every performer looks and sounds fabulous! The amphitheater stage is equipped for more complicated performances, too, with advanced features that include stage rigging and a fly system.

The Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre is a popular local event space in San Diego. The beautiful outdoor setting is an ideal location for an evening under the stars. The amphitheater can hold 4,600 people. It was designed in a classic amphitheatre layout, which gives everyone a good view of the stage. The top-notch sound and lighting create a stunning environment that will carry you away in the thrill of the moment.

Large video screens are also used as backdrops to enhance the performance.

The amphitheatre is fully catered for visitors with disabilities, with seats available on all levels. You’ll be able to take a 20 oz. sealed bottle of water inside, and a single portion of food in a clear freezer bag, sized 1 gallon or less. You’ll also find concession stands around the amphitheatre’s top concourse, which include such items as hot dogs, wraps, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, cookies and candy.

Famous performers

Some of the best known musicians in the world have performed at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. These include Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Madonna, Jimmy Buffet and The Grateful Dead. You might also have seen ZZ Top, Massive Attack, Peter Frampton, Peter Gabriel or R.E.M.

Throughout its history, this venue has been home to a large list of iconic artists. From classical music and Shakespearean plays to contemporary pop shows and rock concerts. Some of the most notable people who have performed here include Bob Dylan, Florence and the Machine, Lana Del Rey, and Sia.
